\u201cWhat\u2019s New?\u201d an exciting weekly TV programme BBC News, for young people in Africa launches on 23rd<\/sup> June.\u00a0 Aimed at 11-16 year olds the show is an informative, entertaining and fun programme which will keep young people up to date with what\u2019s happening in the world they live in.<\/p>\n

Nisha Kapur, BBC Commissioning Editor, said: \u201cWhat\u2019s New? is for and about young people across Africa. It gives them the chance to find out more about the world in a fresh and energetic way. \u201c<\/p>\n

What\u2019s New? will include three regular segments each week:<\/p>\n

Behind the headlines:<\/span> <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

This segment explores a story which has featured regularly in the news and will fully explain through graphics and films what the story is about.<\/p>\n

The big interview:<\/span> <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

A weekly interview with a celebrity – or someone who is making the news in Africa.\u00a0 This will include musicians, artists, authors and many others.<\/p>\n

\u2018My Story\u2019:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s New? gives young people a chance to tell their own stories about their lives, school and what they enjoy doing.<\/p>\n

Co-presenters Debula Kemoli and Ben Hunte will bring their own infectious style to What\u2019s New?<\/p>\n

Debula Kemoli said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many stories young people want to share, I can\u2019t wait to tell them all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ben Hunte said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve wanted to become a BBC presenter since I started watching TV! I\u2019m now living my dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

The programme will be presented from an immersive virtual studio where stories will be brought to life in a fun and engaging way using the latest VR technology.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s New?\u00a0 will engage younger viewers with events in Africa and the wider world, through specially commissioned features, such as:<\/p>\n

Fake news and Reality Check for Kids<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s New? will help the audience distinguish between trustworthy news stories and sources, and fake content that is being shared online. We will also expose misleading facts and figures which distort the reporting of a story.<\/p>\n

The Conversation<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This regular series will explore topics that children are talking about.\u00a0\u00a0 What\u2019s New? will get groups of young people talking to each other, focusing on areas that they might find hard to discuss with adults.<\/p>\n

With What\u2019s New? You\u2019ll never miss out!<\/p>\n

To watch the programme search for \u201cWhat\u2019s New?\u201d on YouTube every Saturday from 9am GMT. The team will be posting exclusive clips throughout the week on this channel.<\/p>\n
