Sierra Express Media is reliably informed that the country\u2019s main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) may not contest the 2018 election if the party continues with its planned convention in Kenema before the conduct of the National Officers election. This, according to some senior members of the party, is a complete contradiction to the Supreme Court Ruling which states that there must be a National Officers election of the party before any Flag Bearer election is held as a result of the fact that the term of office of the party\u2019s National Officers has expired since August, 2017 and as such does not have the mandate to conduct any election.<\/p>\n
It could be recalled that, the National Democratic Alliance Party (NDA) was disqualified from contesting the 2012 election as a result of a breach of the Electoral Act which the SLPP is also about to do. Should the SLPP fail to adhere to the Supreme Court ruling, it will be a complete breach of the country\u2019s Electoral Act which consequence will mean disqualification from contesting the forth coming election come March 2018.<\/p>\n
We are therefore as a responsible media house and one that stands to defend democracy calling on all the power thirst individuals within the SLPP to follow the due process of the law for the betterment of our democracy.<\/p>\n
