Following the 20th<\/sup> Report of the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service, the Parliament of Sierra Leone has on the 08th<\/sup> October, 2015 ratified eight presidential nominees to serve in various high offices of State. The following presidential nominees were approved by the House through a collection of voices:<\/p>\n

  1. Dr. Staneala Madie Beckley \u2013 Chairman, Teaching Service Commission<\/li>\n
  2. Hon. Alhaji Badarah Sheriff \u2013 Board Member, SIERRATEL<\/li>\n
  3. Mr. Christo Johnson \u2013 Member, Income Tax Board of Appellate Commissioners<\/li>\n
  4. Mr. Emmanuel Tarmoh \u2013 Board Member, SALHOC<\/li>\n
  5. Mr. Abu B. Tarawalie \u2013 Member, Minerals Advisory Board<\/li>\n
  6. Mr. Samuel A. Turay \u2013 Board Member, SALWACO<\/li>\n
  7. Ms. Sonia Osho-Williams \u2013 Member, NATCOM and<\/li>\n
  8. Mr. Sidique Mansaray \u2013 Board Member, SALWACO<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Prior to the ratification of the presidential nominees, the following MPs contributed to the debate:<\/p>\n

    Hon. Komba E. Kodoeyoma who seconded the motion said that Dr. Beckley was made of sterner stuff, a woman of substance and high standing. He encouraged her to work tirelessly to improve teachers\u2019 salaries and conditions of service, and that she had \u201cspent spent all her life in the process of educating people\u201d.<\/p>\n

    Hon. Hannah Bundu Songowa prayed for the souls of the departed Williams whose daughter was about to be ratified, and praised President Ernest Bai Koroma for contributing positively to the socio-economic wellbeing of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

    Hon. Paramount Chief, Alie Kavura Kongomoh II spoke on the need of improving and making the teaching profession attractive and admirable once again. He furthered that the Teaching Service Commission be strengthened to improve the conditions of teachers in the country.<\/p>\n

    Hon. Ansumana J. Kaikai, the acting Minority Leader said among other things that \u201cthe nominees are fine\u201d and wished them well in the various positions to which they have been nominated by President Koroma.<\/p>\n

    Hon. Ibrahim Bundu, the Majority Leader of the House also said among other things bordering on real and fake teachers\u2019 certificates, to do more publicity on the work of the Income Tax and Appellate Commission, to look at the tax base of the country as over Le 200 Billion Leones remain uncollected because of tax evasion, and that Parliament must go to work against tax evaders to enhance development, or otherwise face the \u201cwrath\u201d of the electorates.<\/p>\n
