All is now set for Senegalese-American born sensation Hip-Hop & R&B star, Aliaune Damala Akon Thiam popularly known as Akon [although there is some ambiguity and debate about Akon’s legal name and birth date. Akon is usually credited as Aliaune Thiam. In addition to the longer form, Akon’s full name has been reported both as Aliaune Badara Thiam and Alioune Badara Thiam]<\/em> in the musical arena to explode the capital city of Freetown on Tuesday April 27, (Independence Day) at the National Stadium. Babsy Reports in a video footage broadcast at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC); Akon has officially confirmed that he will be performing live in Sierra Leone on April 27th<\/sup> as the country celebrates its 49th<\/sup> Independence Anniversary.<\/p>\n

Born<\/em><\/strong>: \u00c2\u00a0Aliaune Badara Akon Thiam, on October 14 1981. (orApril 30, 1973 or April 16, 1973 no concrete evidence has ever been provided).<\/p>\n

Raised<\/em><\/strong>: Akon was born in St. Louis and raised in Senegal, Africa until he was 7. At age 7, he and his family moved to Union City, New Jersey to live in the United States full-time.<\/p>\n

Early Life<\/h3>\n

Akon, a Muslim, is the son of jazz percussionist Mor Thiam. While he was in high school, his parents moved to Atlanta and left Akon and his brother behind to finish school. Akon soon found himself taking advantage of his freedom and getting in trouble with both classmates and the legal system. Akon was allegedly jailed for three years for grand theft auto and during that time began working on music. Akon credits a love for music, and admiration of his father, for allowing him to turn his life around.<\/p>\n

Trouble<\/h3>\n

Upon release from prison, Akon began writing and recording tracks in a home studio. The tapes found their way to SRC\/Universal, and the label released his debut album, Trouble, in June, 2004. The album included the hit singles \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Locked Up (Remix),\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (featuring the rapper Styles P), \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Banaza (Belly Dancer)\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Ghetto.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Locked Up\u00e2\u20ac\u009d reached the top 10 on the Billboard singles chart in the U.S., as did the song \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Lonely\u00e2\u20ac\u009d which samples Bobby Vinton\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s classic song \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Mr. Lonely.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

During 2009 the Konvicg CEO prepped releases for T-Pain, Lady Gaga, Kardinal Offishal, Flipsyde Dolla, and Colby O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Donis.<\/p>\n
