Sierra Leone\u2019s Charg\u00e9 d’ Affairs to\u00a0the Federal Democratic Republic\u00a0of Ethiopia has said that the Government of Sierra Leone is sincerely\u00a0grateful to the Member States\u00a0of the African Union and other\u00a0international partners for the latest show of support, in terms of\u00a0human as well as financial resources in the fight to combat the Ebola\u00a0virus in the country.<\/p>\n
Ambassador\u00a0Ismael\u00a0Koroma made this\u00a0disclosure in a statement to the African Union\u00a0Peace and Security Council Special Session on Ebola,\u00a0held on Wednesday 29th<\/sup>\u00a0October 2014,\u00a0at the African Union\u2019s Headquarters in\u00a0Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.\u00a0He said that the devastating effects and impacts of the deadly Ebola\u00a0pandemic are ravaging the people and\u00a0economies of the three affected countries,\u00a0thus\u00a0giving rise to serious humanitarian crisis in the\u00a0West African\u00a0sub region.<\/p>\n Ambassador Koroma\u00a0informed the AU Peace and Security Council\u00a0about the robust measures instituted in the last few weeks by the President of Sierra Leone, His\u00a0Excellency Dr.\u00a0Ernest\u00a0Bai Koroma,\u00a0in\u00a0a bid\u00a0to quickly defeat the Ebola\u00a0pandemic in the country. He\u00a0said besides\u00a0the\u00a0earlier declaration\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0State of Public Emergency in the country, the President has recently transformed the Emergency Operations Center\u00a0to\u00a0a\u00a0National\u00a0Ebola Response Center and re-assigned the Defense Minister, Major\u00a0Rtd. Paolo\u00a0Conteh\u00a0to champion the fight against the Ebola war in the country.\u00a0\u201cThe Government has also contributed\u00a0huge sum of the national budget\u00a0as hazard incentive to be paid to health workers in the forefront of\u00a0this fight,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n The African Union Commissioner for Social Affairs,\u00a0Dr. Mustapha\u00a0Sidiki\u00a0Kaloko\u00a0also gave a comprehensive briefing to the Peace and Security Council\u00a0on the Commission\u2019s efforts to combat the crisis in West Africa.
