Hiphop artist Alim Kamara will be headlining at the renowned London venue The Jazz Caf\u00e9 on the 11th<\/sup>\u00a0of August, with a night of\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cblissful sounding hip hop, neo-soul, blues, jazz, spoken word and African drumming\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0to promote peace and leave your mind stimulated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Back in the day my cousin and I would stand outside \u2018Our Price\u2019 record store in Crouch End, London, with the exact amount of coins to buy a Parental Explicit Hiphop CD. That was where my education of a new culture begun. We were only nine and so we would ask a complete stranger going into the store to buy us the CD. We would then lightning bolt home to throw it on and learn the lyrics to our favourites.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWell today\u2019s topic is self-destruction\u2026 It\u2019s one or two suckers, ignorant brothers trying to rob and steal from one another\u2026 So to crush that stereotype here\u2019s what we did. We got ourselves together so that you could unite and stand for what\u2019s right.\u2019 – KRS ONE<\/em><\/p>\n

When you talk about super heroes, aside from mum\u2019s firm handling, this was the art form that encouraged me to stand for something.<\/em><\/p>\n

So begins the self-penned note to music lovers by Alim Kamara. Fast forward to 2014 and on the 11th of August, he will be igniting the same stage already graced by some of these “hiphop heroes” namely KRS One, Roots Manuva, Common and The Roots as he headlines at London\u2019s renowned Jazz Caf\u00e9 with an event to promote peace.<\/p>\n

For an independent artisan of hip hop who has stayed devoted to nurturing his passions and developing his craft, this can be considered the ultimate nod and a timely reward. A good part of his dedication to hiphop is prevalent in his steadfast mission to inspire, inform and ignite. What some may not know about Alim Kamara is that hiphop has given him many awards but has also taken him into schools both at home and abroad and encouraged him to set up a charity to support education in Sierra Leone. The documentary\u00a0Hiphop Is My Village<\/strong>\u00a0chronicles his journey with the latter and is a must watch.<\/p>\n
