The Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Leader of the All People\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Congress (APC) United Kingdom\/Northern Ireland Branch Kadie Buya Kamara (photo)\u00c2\u00a0has called on striking workers in Sierra Leone to call off their action and go back to work.<\/p>\n
Kadie made this call yesterday on her official webpage of Facebook shortly after the President\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ultimatum for striking workers to go back to work or face the consequences.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I am appealing to you all reading my message to talk to your friends, relatives and colleagues to give up the strike,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Buya said.<\/p>\n
Kadie Buya, herself a practicing nurse based in London, acknowledged the important sacrifices made by nurses and doctors in Sierra Leone and the fact that they are not well paid like their counterparts overseas, but believes the innocent suffering sick people should not be the ones bearing the brunt.<\/p>\n
The APC Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Leader said that the fact that the President himself had intervened in the matter is an assurance that their problems will be looked into and well addressed.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The message has reached His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and I believe he will surely take care of that,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she said.<\/p>\n
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Please don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t let the sick die, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t live your lives with regret and don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t blame yourselves for the thing that you cannot change but admire your courage for the hard work that you have always been doing for the love of your people and for the love of Sierra Leone,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the Facebook message read.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Workers in Sierra Leone have down tools over better working conditions and attempts by the government to negotiate and persuade them into changing their ground have so far proved futile.<\/p>\n
In fact, the President himself met with leaders of the striking workers in a bid to calm them down and have them returned to work \u00e2\u20ac\u201c which yielded no dividend – forcing the President to announce an ultimatum that striking workers who fail to report for work on Monday will face the consequences, while contingency plans have been put in place in case the workers continue maintain their ground.<\/p>\n
