Sierra Leone\u2019s Deputy Ambassador to the People\u2019s Republic of China,\u00a0Her Excellency,\u00a0Kumba Alice Momoh has called on a cross section of African women to be focused, committed and\u00a0bededicated to their core values so as to\u00a0contribute positively to the growth of their respective countries within the\u00a0continent.<\/p>\n
She spoke on Thursday, 29th May at China Women\u2019s University,(CWU)\u00a0at\u00a0a ceremony marking the close of a\u00a015 days\u00a0longseminar on Social Management Capacity Building for Female Officials from English speaking\u00a0African countries.<\/p>\n
The programme, organized\u00a0by China Women\u2019s University and sponsored by China\u2019s\u00a0Ministry of Commerce,\u00a0brought together women from over 12 African countries, including Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, Namibia, Ethiopia\u00a0and\u00a0Kenya, amongst others.<\/p>\n
Sierra Leone was\u00a0proudly\u00a0represented by\u00a0Madam\u00a0Elizabeth Manns, Women\u2019s leader for the governing All People\u2019s Congress and\u00a0Madam\u00a0Nancy Tengbeh, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and culture.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the event, Madam Kumba Momoh congratulated participants for successfully\u00a0going through the seminar. Sheencouraged them to put into good use what has been learnt in china. \u00a0\u201cI am proud of you all. You have represented us as a continent\u00a0effectively\u201d,<\/p>\n
Sounding optimistic about women\u2019s contributing role to Africa\u2019s growth, Madam Momoh said, this is the time that women should come together\u00a0and be\u00a0felt. \u00a0\u201cThis is our time as women. When you educate a woman, you\u00a0have educated a country. I therefore encourage you to ensure, all what you have learnt\u00a0is put\u00a0into good use.\u201d<\/p>\n
She, on\u00a0behalf of all the countries represented,\u00a0expressed Africa\u2019s\u00a0appreciation to China for such\u00a0training\u00a0opportunities and particularly for the\u00a0longstanding friendship\u00a0between the two.China, she said, \u201chas come to Africa to partner with us. They know our needs and today Africans are benefiting from the development support china is giving us\u201d<\/p>\n
Liu Meng, Vice President of Chins Women\u2019s University, in her statement congratulated participants for\u00a0what she referred to as \u201ctwo\u00a0weeks of intensive mutual understanding between Chinese and\u00a0African\u00a0women.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said, they have a lot\u00a0of\u00a0\u201cgood\u00a0memories and we have accumulated knowledge and experience and we were able to develop a vision for the future\u201d, she\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
Madam Elizabeth Manns\u00a0from Sierra Leone, in her statement said the \u201cexperiences gained during the programme were\u00a0very enriching\u201d\u00a0She paid tribute to China Women\u2019s University foropening their doors to African women.<\/p>\n
She also thanked the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and\u00a0China Women\u2019s University for the training opportunity whilst assuring that they will put to use what they have learnt in order to \u201ccreate an impact and facilitate change\u201d<\/p>\n
Other speakers included Ms. Mwolobi Martha from Uganda and Muthuuri Joyce Kanyiri from Kenya.<\/p>\n
China Women\u2019s University is the oldest and most outstanding women\u2019s university in the People\u2019s Republic of China. It is specialized in women\u2019s higher education and research related areas.\u00a0With currently over 5000 students, the University is under the administration of the All China Women\u2019s Federation.<\/p>\n
