Freetown, May 11, 2014<\/b>:<\/i> The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) wishes to inform the membership that bye-election for the remaining Broadcast Media Expert Representative to the Independent Media Commission (IMC) has been slated for Saturday 24th<\/sup> May, 2014 at the SLAJ Headquarters and the SLAJ Regional Offices simultaneously starting at 9am. <\/b>One Commissioner will be <\/b>elected represent the remaining Broadcast\/TV expert.\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n

Nominations for the Commissioner will start from Monday 12th<\/sup> May, 2014 to close of business on Thursday 15th<\/sup> May, 2014.<\/b><\/p>\n

Nomination forms are available at a cost of Le500,000 (five hundred thousand Leones) at the SLAJ Headquarters at 56 Campbell Street, Freetown.<\/p>\n

All nominees are requested to attach relevant supporting documents to the nomination form to verify eligibility.<\/p>\n

List of Nominees will be published on Friday 16th<\/sup> May, 2014.<\/b> Subsequent schedule for the election process will be announced thereafter.<\/p>\n

Criteria for prospective IMC Commissioners<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. The candidate must show evidence of minimum of 10 years apprenticeship with progressive development, during which the candidate must have moved from cub reporter to management or editorial responsibility.<\/li>\n
  2. Apprenticeship must be from a recognised media institution accompanied with attestation.<\/li>\n
  3. Candidate must currently be in active \u201cmainstream\u201d<\/b> journalism or in media development\/education. (Main stream here means practitioners who are either presently involved in the broadcast or print media, or attached to a media development organisation like BBC media action, Journalists for Human Rights (JHR), CORNET, INFORMOTRAC, etc. but not PROs or Communication specialists in NGOs or parastatals)<\/li>\n
  4. An academic qualification in a related field \u2013 either certificate, diploma or degree with long standing experience.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Candidates should however ensure that they are of good moral standing, with no criminal record, and are able to regularly attend all Board and Committee meetings without any financial burden to the Commission.<\/p>\n
