Doha, 10 January 2014<\/b> \u2013\u00a0For the sixth consecutive month,\u00a0Egyptian authorities continue to delay their decision to release Al Jazeera\u00a0Mubasher Misr cameraman Mohamed Badr.<\/p>\n
The verdict in his case was scheduled to be announced yesterday.\u00a0\u00a0However, the court decided to\u00a0delay the sentencing until\u00a0\u00a02 February 2014.<\/p>\n
Egyptian authorities\u00a0continue to hold five Al Jazeera Media Network journalists. Mohamed Badr had\u00a0his sentence postponed today and Abdullah Al Shami from Al Jazeera Arabic has\u00a0been detained for over five months.\u00a0\u00a0In\u00a0addition, Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed from Al Jazeera English\u00a0are under arrest for the 12th consecutive day and are expected to\u00a0appear before prosecution later today.<\/p>\n
Al Jazeera Media\u00a0Network expresses its absolute disappointment with the way its five arrested\u00a0journalists are being treated and demands their immediate and unconditional\u00a0release.<\/p>\n
Ghassan Abu Hussein,\u00a0Al Jazeera Media Network official spokesperson, said: “By continuing to hold\u00a0our journalists, the Egyptian authorities are attempting to silence us and to disable\u00a0our role as a media organisation.\u00a0\u00a0We\u00a0condemn the allegations directed at our staff by Egyptian authorities which are\u00a0aiming to stigmatize us, and further incite violence against our journalists\u00a0working on the ground.\u00a0\u00a0This is all part\u00a0of a larger antagonistic campaign against us.”<\/p>\n
Al Jazeera Media Network is operating legally\u00a0in Egypt.\u00a0\u00a0However, due to its coverage\u00a0of all perspectives on events in Egypt, it has been subject to enormous\u00a0pressure by the interim government since the coup d’etat of 3 July 2013.\u00a0\u00a0Aggressive actions by Egyptian\u00a0authorities against Al Jazeera Media Network include the arrest of journalists,\u00a0confiscation of equipment and jamming of satellite signals.<\/p>\n
