{"id":63423,"date":"2013-11-27T10:20:10","date_gmt":"2013-11-27T10:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=63423"},"modified":"2013-11-27T10:20:10","modified_gmt":"2013-11-27T10:20:10","slug":"african-thought-leaders-to-discuss-key-challenges-at-app-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=63423","title":{"rendered":"African thought leaders to discuss key challenges at APP meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GENEVA, Nov 26 \u0096 Investment, tax, remittances, and aid will all be on the agenda when African thought leaders <a href=\"http:\/\/www.africaprogresspanel.org\/african-thought-leaders-to-discuss-key-challenges-at-app-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\">meet in Geneva<\/a> to discuss how Africa can raise more and cheaper finance for inclusive and sustainable growth, the Executive Director of the Africa Progress Panel (APP) said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Organised by the Africa Progress Panel, which is chaired by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the meeting will take place on Thursday November 28<sup>th<\/sup>, and will include former government leaders, economists, and experts on agriculture, fisheries, and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among the participants are three former presidents, together with thought leaders from the IMF, United Nations, government, business, and media. The discussion will inform the 2014 Africa Progress Report, due for release in May.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u0093We&#8217;\u0092ve seen from the success of this year\u0092s report how there\u0092s a real thirst for honest and provocative analysis that will reset the agenda on Africa\u0092s development issues,\u0094 Caroline Kende-Robb said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u0093The great strength of the Africa Progress Report, and one reason why it has become so influential, is that the Panel\u0092s combined experience and independence allows it to convene some of the best and brightest thought leaders and experts from all over the continent and indeed the world,\u0094 she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 2014 Africa Progress Report will explore the ways in which Africa can raise finance and invest in its resource wealth \u0096 including agriculture and fisheries &#8211; to generate inclusive and sustainable growth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Investments in infrastructure, skills, jobs, manufacturing, and other opportunities can also help Africa to unlock its potential for sustained and inclusive growth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u0093Such growth would be transformational for Africa,\u0094 said Ms Kende-Robb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Launched in Cape Town last May, the 2013 Africa Progress Report, <i>Equity in Extractives<\/i>, showed how Africa\u0092s oil, gas, and mining sectors offer excellent opportunity to improve the lives of millions.
