Its board of directors is composed of volunteer members of the Francophone community in Toronto. It has been established to operate a center of production and dissemination of the song, music and other arts serving the Francophone and Francophile community in the region. Its main function is to highlight the richness of African culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"this-years-festival-bana-yafri\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>This year&#8217;s Festival Bana Y&#8217;Afrique will be held on: <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<address><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Date<\/strong>:\u00a0 Friday 19<b><sup>th<\/sup><\/b> and 20<b><sup>th <\/sup><\/b>Saturday July 2013<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> <strong>Time<\/strong>:\u00a0 7PM &#8211; 1 AM<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong> at the Daniels Spectrum, 585 Dundas East, Toronto.<\/strong><\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Information: 416-735-0169 \/ 416-207-1325<\/strong><\/span><\/address>\n<h3 id=\"performances\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Performances:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>IDEMUDIA COLE\u00a0 &#8211; <\/strong><b>Talent of <\/b><b>Benin<\/b><\/span><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Born in Benin City, Edo State Nigeria. He started his musical career in the late sixties through cultural activities. He attended Omo Osula Royal Music Academy, where he learnt to play the trumpet. He became a member of Prince Omo Lawal Osula band (1971 through 1973). He then went on to play with General Bolivia Osigbeme dance band from the late 1973 through 1974.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1995 he established his own Band, &#8216;The Talent Of Benin and soon became one of the better known Benin musicians. He recorded his first album tittled Ovhiye\/Ewuakpe the Great. This album sold over 360,000 copies, a rare feat in those days in 1976. Before that, he played with General Bolivia Osigbeme in late 1973 through 1974. In 1975, he established his own band which he called The Talent of Benin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He has to his credit, 27 LP&#8217;s including the hit tracks Zuma, Ikpemonba, Osimwiondor e.t.c. With over 37 years on stage, he has serenaded thousands of loyal supporters across Africa with a deep root in Edo kingdom. His folksy, pulsating, high life beats continues it&#8217;s spellbinding magic on his growing fans.<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>PALM<\/b><b> WINE BAND<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Toronto based Palm Wine Band is a group of fine musicians with diverse musical backgrounds united in experimenting with African rhythms and tunes! Even though members have a common ancestry to Sierra Leone, the musical repertoire transcends boundaries with a unique spicy flavour of Blues, Jazz, Calypso and reggae infused with the mystical and contagious rhythms of West Africa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Multi-talented Theophilus \u201cMillion\u201d Morrison leads the band from the drums and has a music career spanning from marching band to sacred music, starting from the ripe old age of 12. In addition to playing several instruments including the Trumpet, Guitar and Keyboard. He has released several solo albums the latest one entitled \u201cSweet Papa\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The band consists of a bass guitarist, Didi Dougherty, a solo guitarist, Olu Cole.\u00a0 On the keyboard is Sina During.\u00a0 Harold Domingo and David Kofi Williams are the percussionists.\u00a0 Maafo Tibbin, Chipo Rhodes and Harold Pabs-Garnon are vocalists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>TAMSIR ET LE XAWARE RYTHME<\/b> <b>will present a Sabar ballet<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Originally from Thi\u00e8s from the centre-west region of Senegal, Tamsir is the descendent of a large family of musicians who translate the art of music from father to son; called \u2018history keepers\u2019, these \u2018griot\u2019 recount the history of their nation through song, thus contributing to the re-birth of African heritage from one generation to the next. Tamsir is a former member of the Senegalese National Ballet and plays the djembe, the tama, the sabar and the khalam, all traditional African instruments.
