Port Loko, July\u00a0 (SLENA) –<\/b> The principal of the Port Loko Teachers College has made it abundantly clear that no amount of detraction will dampen his resolve to make the college an institution of excellence, and that the internal restructuring of heads of departments and programme coordinators remains an on-going process until the desired goal was achieved.<\/p>\n
The Principal, H. V. S Bangura was responding to a recent\u00a0 publication titled \u2018PLTC in Shambles\u2019 which portrayed principal Bangura, his Vice, Ahmed Adakwa Koroma and the Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Makotie as people responsible for the purported collapse of the college.<\/p>\n
The article accused the aforementioned people of victimizing every critic of their administration, citing the case of certain teachers that have shifted away from their departments.<\/p>\n
According to the Vice Principal, Ahmed Adakwa Koroma, the ongoing restructuring process which must have necessitated the said publication was initiated as a way forward after a thorough study of some of the setbacks in the college.<\/p>\n
He said the initiative was so timely as certain key areas of study such as HTC in Business Studies, Technical and Vocational programmes and Distance Education programme at HTC level which have now been extended to Kambia and Koinadugu districts have since been included.<\/p>\n
He said the college has also partnered with EDUCAID to train teachers and monitors on the methodology of distance education as well as Children in Crisis\/FAWE to train teachers at the lower TC level in Kambia District.<\/p>\n
The Vice Principal, Ahmed Adakwa Koroma told SLENA in an interview that the college has written a proposal to introduce inclusive education in the college which has the concurrence of Children-in-Crisis\/FAWE.<\/p>\n
As a result of all these innovations, Mr. Koroma said the college now enjoys greater recognition by the Ministry of Education as there is now a remarkable discipline on campus, adding that the posting of students to schools for teaching practice was until now based on bribes or tips for the male students while their female counterparts were subjected to other immoral means.<\/p>\n
According to the Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Makotie, the Examination Committee will also have to be restructured in order to discourage exams malpractices including extortion of money from students.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe PHE Department is among the last to be restructured to enhance its effectiveness,\u201d said the Vice Principal.<\/p>\n
Sources say the current head of that department who was referred to in the article as docile holds a double Master\u2019s degree in Educational Administration and Philosophy, respectively.<\/p>\n
Contrary to what was portrayed in the un-authored article, the principal of the college, Mr. Bangura said his administration has not only braved its way to influence the installation of solar lights on campus but has also prevailed on the Port Loko District Chairman for the construction of boreholes in order to ease the twin problems of water and electricity on campus.<\/p>\n
The administration has also disclosed plans to introduce computer and internet services for both students and the college community, sources intimated SLENA.<\/p>\n
