In commemoration of the 52nd Independence anniversary of Sierra Leone on April 27th<\/sup> 2013, H.E. Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir\u00a0 hosted a dinner at the official residence.\u00a0 (Photo: H.E\u00a0 Bassir delivering her speech<\/i>)<\/p>\n

The event was graced by members of the Sierra Leone Nationals Union, Sierra Leone experts serving in various internal organizations in Senegal, Senegalese who have served in Sierra Leone as well as friends of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

In a party mood<\/p><\/div>\n

H.E the Ambassador delivered a statement in which she highlighted a good number of developmental programs undertaken by the government of President Ernest Bai Koroma during his first mandate which helped and greatly contributed to his re election in last November. She pointed out that President Koroma has vowed to moved the country from \u201cAgenda for Change to Agenda for Prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ambassador Bassir called on all Sierra Leoneans in her countries of accreditation (Senegal, Morocco, Cape Verde and Mauritania) to be law abiding and to serve as Ambassadors of their country.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Sierra Leone Embassy in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Nationals Union organized a football match between the Union and the Nigeria Nationals Union, which drew a large crowd of spectators of different nationals across the country. The game ended in a one all draw.<\/p>\n

In the evening of the day, the Embassy also in collaboration with the Union organized a ball that also attracted other nationals. It was jammed packed.<\/p>\n

On the whole the celebration sent a strong message to residents of Dakar and beyond, that the Embassy has now come to stay and working in the interest of the government and the people of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

The Executives\u00a0 and members of the Sierra Leone Nationals Union expressed deepest gratitude to H.E\u00a0 Khadijatu Bassir for her effort to unite all Sierra Leoneans and also providing them with the necessary protection and other forms of assistance as and when necessary.<\/p>\n

“My Dear Brothers and Sisters,<\/address>\n
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,<\/address>\n

Let me congratulate all of us. It is exactly a year ago since we last met as a family to celebrate the independence anniversary of our beloved country- Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

The event of this year\u2019s celebration will take the following formats:<\/p>\n

A \u2013 A Football match between the nationals of Sierra Leone and Nigeria<\/p>\n

B \u2013 The on- going reception<\/p>\n

C-\u00a0 A ball dance this evening<\/p>\n

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to inform you that these programs were organized by the Sierra Leone Nationals Union and the Embassy. We will continue to share our experiences and efforts in this direction.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Taking into account that we are far from home, let me seize this unique opportunity to call on all of us to be law abiding in Senegal, our country of residence and at the same time make your stay a useful one.<\/p>\n

On the home front, you are all aware that presidential, parliamentary and municipal elections were held last November according to International standards. The elections were acclaimed by all observers as held in a peaceful, free and fair atmosphere in line with our constitution. Dr Ernest Bai Koroma the incumbent president won on the Agenda for Prosperity for Sierra Leone. We all remember that in 2007 the president won his first winning on the Agenda for Change. True to his manifesto we saw the changes in \u2013<\/p>\n

A \u2013 The rapid construction of roads across the entire country<\/p>\n

B \u2013 Free Health Care<\/p>\n

C \u2013 An ultra modern hospital in Jui, improved electricity and agriculture.<\/p>\n

In fact the list goes on and on.<\/p>\n

In recognition of these efforts and the continued respect for democratic values, President Koroma was one of the four African leaders invited to the White House by President Obama last month. This is no doubt an achievement that all of us as Sierra Leoneans should be proud of. Government is also embarking on its policy of the Agenda for Prosperity in key areas so as to improve on the living standards of all Sierra Leoneans. Contributions therefore emanating from us by way of sending genuine investors to our country will very much be in place.<\/p>\n

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, so let us raise up our glasses and drink lustily to the continued\u00a0 good health and personal well being to H.E President Koroma ant continued peace, security, and economic advancement to all Sierra Leoneans living abroad and at home.<\/p>\n
