{"id":53918,"date":"2013-03-11T16:00:31","date_gmt":"2013-03-11T16:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=53918"},"modified":"2013-03-11T16:00:31","modified_gmt":"2013-03-11T16:00:31","slug":"standard-chartered-bank-celebrates-international-womens-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=53918","title":{"rendered":"Standard Chartered Bank Celebrates International Women\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Freetown, March 8, 2013<\/b><i> <b>\u2013 <\/b><\/i>Standard Chartered Bank under its Diversity &amp; Inclusion platform joined the world to commemorate International Women\u2019s Day, a day set aside to celebrate the success and contribution of women; and to recognise the challenges women still face around the world.<em> (Photo: Kumba Ngongou, Head of Corporate Affairs Standard Chartered Bank, Sierra Leone)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the Bank aspires to be a leader in gender diversity, supporting women in the workplace, as customers and in the community, Standard Chartered remains committed to be \u2018Here for good\u2019 in the markets where it operates, and is determined to make a difference not only to help women fulfill their potential as leaders in the Bank, but to also play a critical role with its customers and communities in supporting and furthering the role of women in every society, including Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Whilst the world celebrated this year\u2019s International Women\u2019s Day under the theme, \u2018Gender Agenda Gaining Momentum&#8217;; women in many countries particularly in Standard Chartered Bank\u2019s markets of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, still face many barriers \u2013 illiteracy, poverty, domestic violence, greater vulnerability to certain diseases and discrimination unfortunately still feature in some way or another in all societies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Standard Chartered Bank celebrated International Women\u2019s Day in Sierra Leone by making a donation to the Aberdeen Women\u2019s Centre, aimed at supporting\u00a0 women folk in Sierra Leone plagued by Fistula otherwise\u00a0 known as <b>Vesico Virginal Fistula (VVF)<\/b> &#8211; a severe condition which occurs in women during difficult childbirth; resulting to these women being outcasts in their various communities<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Having acknowledged the great strides made by the Aberdeen Women\u2019s Centre established by the Mercy Ships to combat <b>Vesico Virginal Fistula (V V F) <\/b>in Sierra Leone, the Bank for the second time, presented a donation of Le10, 000,000.00 (Ten Million Leones) to the Centre, to support the recovery of women hospitalized in the centre, also taking VVF sensitization and advocacy to the Mile 13 Community in the far west of Freetown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Commenting on the event, Kumba Ngongou, Head of Corporate Affairs Standard Chartered Bank said; \u201cStandard Chartered\u2019s approach to Diversity has led the way in being the Best International Bank in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
