The leadership tussle\u00a0 that recently erupted at Mount Zion has been laid to rest as a result of the intervention of\u00a0 the substantive Chairman of Mount Zion community or New Site Development Committee (NESDECO), Assisstant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel Benson Kargbo, who is\u00a0 serving\u00a0 as Police Advisor under\u00a0 UNAMID in Sudan. On Sunday\u00a0 24th<\/sup> February, 2013, \u00a0he summoned a general meeting to settle the misunderstanding over the chairmanship position within\u00a0 the community.<\/p>\n

Apart from the dispute amongst the youths over who should be the youths chairman of Mount Zion, there was tension over who was the right senior chairman\u00a0 for the community as it became divided with two fractions having one supporting\u00a0 Mr. ILM Sesay\u00a0 who is the Executive Secretary of the National Science Council in the\u00a0 Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the others in support of the UN officer.<\/p>\n

After a short meeting of the community stakeholders, the Chairman announced to members of the community that the misunderstanding over position between him\u00a0 and Mr. Sesay\u00a0 was\u00a0\u00a0 resolved, \u00a0noting that they are on the same trend in terms of the development of the community.\u00a0 He stated openly that he had asked Mr. Sesay to deputize him when he was assigned to serve outside the country. He maintained that he would have faced the committee if he wanted to step down from the chairmanship position. On the other hand, Mr. Sesay expressed that he was thinking that\u00a0 ASP Kargbo asked him to take over from him as community chairman and as deputy.<\/p>\n

In his statement, ASP Kargbo called on the community people to consult with his deputy on arising matters especially when he is out of the country. He commended Mr. Sesay for the laudable development ventures he undertook on his behalf. He assured community members that the governing committee would fully cooperate with members of Mount Zion to ensure sustainable development in that deprived area which lacks hospital and other basic facilities. According to ASP Kargbo, they are trying to establish some action points \u00a0to tackle indiscipline and the rampant use of abusive language.<\/p>\n

In an interview with this press, ASP Kargbo commonly known as \u201csupport\u201d emphasized on the need for the urgent provision of a secondary school and a market in the mountain community which, he said, \u00a0are missing amongst other facilities which they have advocated for since 2006.<\/p>\n

On the recent community youth chairmanship election, ASP Kargbo pointed out that the elders would look into the issue and settle it at once for the sake of peace and the Agenda for Prosperity; a call by His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma. It could be recalled that residents of Mount Zion overwhelmingly\u00a0 voted for Momoh Bangura as Youth Chairman and his opponents\u00a0 disagreed with the election result and\u00a0 this sparked tension leading to violence until the swift intervention of ASP Kargbo who is on a short visit to see his family in the country.<\/p>\n
