Sierra Leone\u2019s Minister of Information and Communication, Hon. Alpha Kanu (in photo) has strongly defended the recent appointments of government Ministers by His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma, saying, \u201cwhen you have a big job to do, it takes a large number of workers or people to perform\u201d or else, the people who voted you will not take you seriously to do what you promised to do when elected.\u00a0 He was speaking on Monday 18th February, on Star Radio\u2019s popular breakfast program, \u2018Star Good Morning Show\u2019 hosted by Patricia Ganda in Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n
According to Hon Alpha Kanu, the Agenda for Prosperity, which is Sierra Leone\u2019s blueprint for national development is aimed at delivering and that President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma has been elected for a five year term in office and \u201che has only less than five years to\u00a0 perform\u2026 he needs a lot of people to ensure he delivers on time.\u201d\u00a0 Speaking further, Hon Kanu said, the number of people appointed\u00a0 is not exhaustive, \u201cthis is a sizeable and acceptable number that Sierra Leoneans will appreciate.\u201d\u00a0 The President, Hon Kanu, stated, has\u00a0 concluded his appointment\u00a0 of\u00a0 Ministers, Deputies and Special Assistants, making the complement of what he needs to run a government.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the number of vehicles that will have to be used by Ministers and Deputies, Hon Alpha Kanu said, \u201cwhen you appoint a Director of Agriculture, you provide him with a vehicle … so when you appoint a minister you give him a car\u2026 this is the necessity for them to deliver on the job.\u201d\u00a0 On the issue of regional balance, the Information Minister informed, that when the case of percentage of population that voted for the President is taken into account, Tonkolili gave a 93% vote to the President but got only three ministries, Pujehun gave 11% vote but they got 5 ministers and Port Loko with 90% but got 3 ministers.\u00a0 He said, \u201cIt is not just about the turnout and support but the ability and capacity of the nominee, devoid of any tribal and regional factors”, the Minister said. \u201cThe APC is here to deliver for everybody in the country\u201d, saying, the party has always celebrated the achievements of Professor Monte Jones who was among the 100th<\/sup> most influential people in the world. \u00a0 His appointment as Special Adviser to the President and Ambassador-At-Large, Hon Kanu said, is a continuation by the governing APC in celebrating his achievements.<\/p>\n Speaking further, the Information Minister said, Hon Ibrahim Ben Kargbo \u201cwas one of the best ministers we had, likewise Ambassador Dauda Kamara who have both come with their wealth of experience to be advising the President.” The President, Hon Kanu said, has\u00a0\u00a0 demonstrated his commitment to getting more youths and women in governance than any other President.
