Freetown, SLENA: <\/b>\u00a0Parliament has approved seven presidential appointees to head various public institutions in the country. Those approved were:\u00a0 Olu Niyie Robbin Coker, Minister of Energy, Mr.\u00a0 Chide Minah, Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mr.\u00a0 Mattin Alex Bash Karmara, Deputy\u00a0 Minister of Energy , Mr. Lovell Thomas, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security, Mr. Sylvester E.O Hancilles,\u00a0 Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Shar Wonday, Director\u00a0 General , National Minerals Agency, Mr.\u00a0 Badara Manasary, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry,<\/p>\n
The approved nominees were interviewed by the Committee on Appointment and Public Service under set criteria, such as educational background, track record, tax obligation, declaration of assets and working experience.<\/p>\n
Making his contribution while approving the nominees, the Leader of the House and Government Business, Hon. SBB Dumbuya cautioned the appointees to respect parliament and parliamentarians while the minority leader, Dr. Bernadette Lahai commended all the approved appointees and urged them to deliver in the interest of the country.<\/p>\n
The Speaker of the house, Justice Abel Stronge congratulated the approved nominees and wished them success in their areas of responsibilities.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Parliament on Tuesday announced the establishment of Parliamentary Oversight Committees which have the mandate to monitor all ministries, departments and agencies (NDAS).<\/p>\n
While making the announcement in parliament, the Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Hon.\u00a0 Claude Kamanda named over twenty committees with their Chairpersons and Deputies. Committees announced would be in charge of ministries such as health, mines, education, agriculture, tourism, trade, etc.<\/p>\n
Leader of the house, Hon. SBB Dumbuya said the parliamentary committees have the sole responsibility of performing oversight functions by monitoring all MDAs.<\/p>\n
