The Congregation of Christian Brothers, (CCB) donated a pool of computers to the Saint Joseph Secondary School in Blama, Small Bo chiefdom, Kenema.<\/p>\n
The organization also gave the school a brand new giant diesel generator and an assortment of Home Economic gadgets, among them a gas cooker.<\/p>\n
Addressing pupils and staff of the school during the presentation ceremony on the school campus, the CCB Head of programmes, David Yambasu, informed all that the donation was funded by Irish Aid through MISEAN CARA, the funding agency for the Irish government, to support developing world projects. He noted that CCB collaborated with the Edmund Rice Network to secure the donation.<\/p>\n
The school principal, Michael Samba, who is the chairman conference of principals, lavished praise on CCB for the generous donation, noting that he has been working hand in glove with the CCB since 1988 when he assumed office as principal of the school.<\/p>\n
Mr. Samba recalled that when the school was displaced to Bo during the war,\u00a0 CCB sheltered and fed the pupils throughout.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, I have no appreciation or gratitude for this good gesture as it is no surprise,\u00a0 CCB has been doing more than this for this school and several other schools in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n
CCB District Leader, Christopher Tell, described the donation as part of\u00a0 CCB\u2019s drive to promote computer literacy in many schools in Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n
\u201cNowadays, education without computer literacy is tantamount to illiteracy\u201d, Mr. Tell told his audience.<\/p>\n
The District Leader attributed the drop of academic standards to the lack of emphasis on early child education, noting that when the educational foundation of the pupil is strong, the rest of his or her academic career will be an easy ride.<\/p>\n
Mr. Tell further stated that the donation was a result of a recent needs assessment survey conducted by\u00a0 CCB.<\/p>\n
He concluded by promising scholarship to pupils who will be able to operate the computers in the shortest possible time.<\/p>\n
