The conference attracted about one thousand five hundred (1500) participants mainly Heads of State, members of civil society groups, academics, journalists, business and government representatives from one hundred and forty (140) countries.<\/p>\n

The International Anti Corruption Conference is the world Premier forum that brings together stakeholders from different quarters to help promote international cooperation among agencies and citizens from all part of the world. The climax of the conference was a declaration made by participants to address the most pressing issues of corruption in today\u2019s world and to combat corruption and fraud through-out the world.<\/p>\n

The Chair of the International Anti Corruption Conference, Justice Barry keefe noted that participants need to recognise that \u201cpeople needs time, fresh ideas and a vibrant civil space. Our role should be to support the people who are willing to change the rules of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Head of Transparency International, Hugette Labelle stated that corruption is the single major threat destroying most countries. Labelle noted that the world needs clean governments, which can put up strong resistance to impunity. She stressed that corruption was one of the major reasons for the Arab Uprising. She advised participants to speak out against injustices of corruption so that corrupt people would not have safe haven or impunity.<\/p>\n

The Head of the Comptroller General of Brazil, Jorge Hage Sobrinho, said that the passing of the Access to information Law and the involvement of the Civil Society in the fight against corruption will yield dividend in the right direction.<\/p>\n

In one of the plenary sessions, the participant discussed the need for a Global Solutions against corruption; the need to build a world free of corruption, collaborative effort of everyone and a practical agenda.\u00a0 In addition, they discussed Anti Corruption Agencies all over the world, pay more attention to women affected by corruption and that emphasis should be placed on preventing corruption.<\/p>\n

Another Plenary Session looks at the media as an important tool in the fight against corruption. In this session participants discussed access to information as an essential component in the fight corruption.<\/p>\n

At the end of the conference the delegate came up with a declaration that centres around connecting citizens in the fight against corruption with the banner headline \u201cDon\u2019t let them get away with it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
