The National Anti-Corruption Strategy Secretariat (NACS) which is charged with the responsibility to coordinate the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy has on the 15th<\/sup> November, 2012 concluded a\u00a0 validation workshop for Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the Northern Region and Kono District held at the Commission\u2019s Regional Office in Makeni. The workshop was organized to provide members of these MDAs the opportunity to assess the report and endorse it, on the just concluded monitoring exercise conducted by Civil Society Monitoring Groups (CSMGs) on the implementation of the Revised National Anti-Corruption Strategy (RNACS) action matrix. In his opening remarks, the Regional Manager ACC North Mr. Patrick Sandi welcomed the participants on behalf of the Commissioner and the Commission to the validation workshop, noting that it is a manifestation of their commitment to the fight against corruption. Mr. Sandi maintained that the engagement was for them to look at the report cautiously and to endorse or validate its contents dispassionately. He entreated the participants to make meaningful contributions during the deliberations; underscoring the point that the Strategy will help transform the country\u2019s institutions in making them corrupt free.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Head of Public Education at the ACC Madam Koloneh Sankoh, in her statement emphasized that it is important for the Heads of MDAs represented to have a thorough and in-depth look at the report and make corrections on it where necessary. Since the implementation of the last National Anti-Corruption Strategy, there have been tremendous improvements in addressing key corruption issues in the various MDAs but more needed to be done she opined. Madam Sankoh implored the participants to speak the truth during the process of validating the report; in order to build better institutions that will be free from corruption for the good of all Sierra Leoneans.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The National Anti-Corruption Strategy Secretariat Manager Christabelle Gordon-Harris, elucidated on the rationale of the workshop, she told the participants that it was organized to validate the information generated from them during the just concluded monitoring exercise of the Revised National Anti-Corruption Strategy. Mrs. Gordon-Harris highlighted some key corruption issues in the report and maintained that these issues were not manufactured by the Commission but rather by the MDAs themselves during the monitoring exercise. She encouraged them to support the ACC in the fight against corruption as the Commission cannot successfully do it alone.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Participants were divided into groups of five to commence group work. The discussions were chaired and directed by the Regional Manager North Mr. Patrick Sandi. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Presentations of the validated reports climaxed the workshop. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The monitoring reports of MDAs were validated in the following order; Port Loko Thursday 8th<\/sup>, Tonkolili Friday 9th<\/sup> Kambia Monday 12th<\/sup> Koinadugu Tuesday 13th<\/sup> Kono Wednesday 14th<\/sup> and Bombali the host District, Thursday 15th.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
