{"id":47657,"date":"2012-09-18T03:38:08","date_gmt":"2012-09-18T03:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=47657"},"modified":"2012-09-18T03:38:08","modified_gmt":"2012-09-18T03:38:08","slug":"more-africell-donations-to-cholera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=47657","title":{"rendered":"More Africell donations to Cholera"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Africell on 17<sup>th<\/sup> September donated medications worth millions of Leones to the Macauley Street and Mabaila Health clinics to help curb the cholera epidemic in Freetown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Africell\u2019s Administrative Director Mr. Abdul Aziz Gabisi said this emergency medical concern demonstrated by Africell is in direct response to the call by the Presidential Task Force on Cholera and the mobile company\u2019s delivery of humanitarian services whenever the need arises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He further revealed that cholera is a water-borne disease, primarily spread by the consumption of water or food that is contaminated. He added that the outbreak was triggered by heavy rainfall and flooding in the country combined with poor hygiene practice, unsafe water sources, ineffective waste management, crowded living conditions, and poor sanitation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He further said in this regard Africell was the first GSM operator to put out a press release on the newspapers, announcing the creation of a cholera support toll free line 909 to provide the populace with valuable information on how to prevent the epidemic, where to get free treatment and other information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He maintained that Africell, as part of national efforts to combat the epidemic, is pleased to donate 6,300 packets of Oral Re-hydrated Salt (ORS) and 10,000 packets of purified water to the Macauley Street Health Center and Mabaila Health Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Finally he said Africell sends its deepest condolences to families all over the country that have lost their loved ones to this epidemic and sincerely hopes that they will all be galvanized as a nation to take the needed action to make sure that this epidemic no longer has the capacity to harm their people the way it did this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The medical superintendent Dr Larry Parker thanked Africell in their effort to fight cholera in this country, adding that in terms of development Africell always leads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He assured the company that the donated items will meet the grass roots people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The community chairman for both health centers, Idriss Kamara, also thanked Africell for the gesture which they accepted warmly.
