{"id":47184,"date":"2012-09-05T16:58:14","date_gmt":"2012-09-05T16:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=47184"},"modified":"2012-09-05T16:58:14","modified_gmt":"2012-09-05T16:58:14","slug":"resist-attempts-by-politicians-using-the-media-as-a-tool-imc-chairman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=47184","title":{"rendered":"\u201cResist attempts by politicians using the media as a tool\u201d\u2013  IMC Chairman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The PPRC Chairman Justice Tolla Thompson (in photo) during a meeting with the Independent Media Commission (IMC) Chairman, commissioner Rod Mac-Johnson and Commissioner Mohamed Samoura, on September 3,<sup>rd<\/sup> observed that utterances during some radio programmes have the potential to incite violence and disrupt the electioneering process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Justice Tolla Thompson meticulously cited examples of such programs and appealed to the IMC for a good working relationship with the various media outlets to ensure a successful election process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the meeting with the PPRC Chairman, Commissioner Rod Mac-Johnson said, the IMC is encouraging moderators to ensure that their programmes are structured and free from hate messages, emotive or judgmental language likely to create tension.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Furthermore, the IMC Chairman advised moderators to be mindful of the people they interview especially on sensitive issues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Chairman of the IMC\u00a0 made an appeal to media practitioners to resist any attempt by politicians to use the media as a tool for derailing the democratic process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a good working relationship between the PPRC, IMC, and the press in general is in place, it is apparent that a free, fair and non-violent elections is assured come November 17<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><em>By E.
