{"id":41879,"date":"2012-06-04T17:43:45","date_gmt":"2012-06-04T17:43:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=41879"},"modified":"2012-06-04T17:43:45","modified_gmt":"2012-06-04T17:43:45","slug":"anti-violence-movement-sensitized-pupils-on-violence-and-tolerance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=41879","title":{"rendered":"Anti Violence Movement sensitized pupil\u2019s on violence and tolerance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Sierra Leone\u2019s Anti Violence Movement on Friday June 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0 ended a one day training workshop for non violence and tolerance for 20 secondary schools in Freetown at the British council auditorium.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In his opening statement, the National Youth Commissioner, Mr. Antony Koroma said pupils are role models in society and that they should not be indulging in acts of violence. He said entertainment activities are meant to create a common platform for the youth folks to meet and have fun with each other rather than fighting. He appeals to them to desist from all forms of violence. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">He advised pupils to concentrate in their various academic disciplines as education should always remain their watch word.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">He called on them to become peace ambassadors that would be disseminating the message of peace they have gathered from the workshop to their colleagues in the other schools. He also called on them to resist and denounce cultism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Director of the Anti Violence Movement \u2013 Sierra Leone, Bernard Conteh said their primary aim is to sensitize youths on non violence and tolerance in the country, adding that come November 17<sup>th<\/sup> election, they should resist influences from politicians who shall be coming around them to influence them with narcotics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">He said the Anti Violent Movement organization through the assistance of UNIPSIL, CCYA, and NYC is trying to curb violence in the Country. He said in a not too distance feature, they will engage 20 secondary schools in Freetown in football gala competition, to raise awareness on the level of violence characterized by youths in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Representative of council of principals, FSSG\u2019s Vice Principal Mrs. Conteh thanked the Anti Violence Movement \u2013 Sierra Leone for coming up with such good initiative for pupils in various schools to abstain from violence as they always educate their pupil\u2019s on non violence activities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">ASP Samura of the Sierra Leone Police Media wing warned the pupils that, any one of them found wanting of crimes such as wounding with intent, murder, robbery with aggravation and the likes will face the law irrespective of their age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">He said they have been sensitizing youths in different forms using various media outlets in the country to reach out the message which must reign supreme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0In his keynote address the country Director of UNISIL Patrick Buse said a progressive country is a peaceful one, adding that if a country is full of violence their will never be development.
