{"id":40721,"date":"2012-05-15T18:13:29","date_gmt":"2012-05-15T18:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=40721"},"modified":"2012-05-15T18:13:29","modified_gmt":"2012-05-15T18:13:29","slug":"sierra-leone-at-a-crossroads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=40721","title":{"rendered":"Sierra Leone at a crossroads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In reference to the \u2018Bob Marley\u2019s Night\u2019 incident at Brookfields on May 11<sup>th<\/sup>, where the event was marred with riotous conduct, and the robbery and banditry orchestrated by IB\u2019s clique, One Blood, many will attest it to be the product of our youths\u2019 reckless behavior and attitude.\u00a0<em> (Photo: Freetown youths)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The conduct of youths of this country in relation to their civic responsibilities needs a serious check following such an incident in the heart of Freetown. \u00a0The Brookfield incident is just one out of the many reckless actions perpetrated by youths against defenseless and innocent people in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another incident that brought to light is the police decision to conduct a raid at the Big Warf (Bone Suffer II) wherein two police officers lost their lives through the violent action of youths in challenging a state institution responsible to curb the menace of crime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The question of youths engaging in organized crime syndicates is on an increase in the cause of mayhem which they let loose unchecked as if the law is mundane in our society. The streets of Freetown remain littered with imported culture of cliques that tend to seek the interest of each other in the den of crime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What is of challenge equally is the question, \u201cWhat credibility does the Judiciary have?\u201d, as many have already asked such a question. \u00a0With all due respect to the judiciary, this institution is not discharging its constitutional duty fairly as records attest that many law offenders are going unpunished on countless occasions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The concerns of unfolding events are only tugging back at the issue of our social responsibility on governmental policies and the state\u2019s approach towards issues affecting the youths of this country.
