Like their counterparts in other parts of the country the students of Kono Town have unreservedly revered President Ernest Bai Koroma for being a leader whom they said has laid formidable foundations that guaranty them better lives in the not distance moment in time. \u00a0(Photo: Students of Koidu Secondary School)<\/em><\/p>\n

The students made this declaration last week\u00a0 when the Attitudinal and Behavioural Change(ABC) Secretariat team called on them while unfolding their sensitization tour on the ABC Concept and Relevance of Political Tolerance To National Development in that part of the country.<\/p>\n

Succinctly the students emphasized that by postulating an ideology, the \u2018Agenda for Change\u2019, to tackle the poor morals that have been the major transgression to Sierra Leone\u2019s development speaks volume about President Koroma\u2019s excellent intention for the future generation.<\/p>\n

Addressing the students the Executive Director of ABC Secretariat, Dr. Ivan Ajibola Thomas encouraged the students to take their studies seriously an opt for subjects that will help them qualify in marketable professions.<\/p>\n

Dr. Thomas advised them to refrain from violent behaviours especially those bordering on political issues. He called on those possessing above eighteen years to register so that they can exercise their franchise in the coming 2012 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council elections. He warned those within and not within the voting age gap to avoid registering more than once and registering respectively since according to him such acts are criminal and punishable by the court of law.<\/p>\n

Dr. Thomas informed the students that political tolerance is a prerequisite of multiparty democracy because it fosters peaceful coexistence and eventually economic posterity. He challenged the students that if they could only be pioneers political tolerance by sensitizing their colleagues and relatives of its inherent beauties the elections will become one of the most peaceful ones in the country\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

Lecturing the students on the topic \u2018 Positive Attitude and Behaviour is Everything\u2019 the National Coordinator and Second- in- Command of ABC Secretariat, Madam Nanette Thomas enticed the students to espouse the belief that education is better than silver and gold; the theme of the nursery rhyme \u2018We All Go To Our Classes\u2019. Madam Thomas told the students not to forget the magic words \u2018thank you\u2019,\u2019 please\u2019 and \u2018I am sorry\u2019. These words she emphasized would open doors and windows for them.\u00a0 She advised the students to inculcate the habit of dressing responsibly especially in school uniforms as according to her they are ambassadors of their institutions.\u00a0 The students she warned must avoid indulging themselves in drug abuse and sexual activities which she informed them will not only affect their health, academic performances, but eventually purge them from the educational mainstream.<\/p>\n

Madam Thomas tasked the teachers to be role models for the students to emulate and further asked the male teachers to see the female students as future contributors to national development rather than toying with their destinies by sexually harassing them. She called on the female students to be abreast with current issue more so the call for gender equality.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am calling on you to be competitive in spite of being girls,\u201d she recommended for the female students and concluded with by directing them to lodge official complaints against parents or guidance that may sexually assault or force them into early marriages.<\/p>\n

Making a contribution a senior student of the Koidu Secondary School for Girls, Mary .S.B. Sebba called on the government to aid them with library and laboratory facilities. According to her although most of them eye science disciplines they are deprived to do so because of these constraints and the lack of competent teachers.<\/p>\n

In their inputs Eddie Sam and Hawa Sam Sumana of Koidu Secondary School underscored the benefits the ABC Secretariats\u2019 sensitization is going to give them. \u201cMost of us have in one way be involved in violence, be it in sport or politics as a result of our lack of understanding that it is criminal. With the sensitization I don\u2019t think anyone will put our educational pursuit at risk for misdirected politicians,\u201d Eddie Sam pointed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed education is better than all other material possessions. Had it not been so Kono District which is renowned for diamond deposits could have been well developed than other parts of the country, but this is not the case because a large proportion of our relatives failed to prioritize education to mining activities,\u201d Hawa Sam Sumana explained and asked the ABC Secretariat to form ABC Integrity Clubs in schools within the Kono District.<\/p>\n

Martha Dauda of Koidu Secondary School for Girls thanking the ABC Secretariat<\/p><\/div>\n

Thanking the ABC Secretariat Martha Duada of Koidu Secondary School for Girls maintained the position they have placed President Koroma for putting impetus on the issue of positively transforming the socioeconomic status of the country by injecting good ethics and morals in her citizens. She called on the educational system to incorporate the ABC Concept into the schools\u2019 curricula in a bid to give the president\u2019s agenda its true meaning.<\/p>\n

The Principal of Koidu Secondary School, Mr. Tamba David Yamba observed that the students are on the right part for eulogizing President Koroma for his visionary aptitude. Principal Yamba towed line with the students whom she described as blessed to experience the leadership of a president who backs his political belief with an ideology.<\/p>\n
