The main opposition Sierra Leone People\u2019s Party (SLPP) has maintained in recent days some news leads about a cross section of its members cross carpeting to the ruling All People\u2019s Congress. Worse still are the reasons advanced by the leavers and the lethal responses of the opposition which reduces the level of seriousness the issue deserves \u2013to a no serious thing, confidence.<\/p>\n
The number margin of support counts in politics on individual followers and figures in the end game of stronghold ideology provides confidence in the politician and his threshold.<\/p>\n
However, this is a bad omen to the politics of Sierra Leone having struggled to come out of a one party rule system which reversed all what the country should have gained in terms of advancing it democratic tenets.<\/p>\n
We have seen situations attracting a good haul of opposition members whose excuses have been the scornful malice afore-thought treatment they are being meted with by members of the wining flag bearer. For example the creation of camps within the one family of members in that party is one bad thing which has tolerated sentiments. Following the sprout of nineteen candidates for the contest of flag bearer aspirant position in the November delegates\u2019 conference, the campaign style created embodiments of loyalty and support for the various candidates\u2019 camps.<\/p>\n
More or so the losers have always complained about been muted by cabal of those whose candidates succeeded. The boldface has been the surface sweep weed to lay the past off, but the element of marginalization continues which has distasted the zeal of others who are now willing to work though regardless of whom they did support in their wholesome primaries.<\/p>\n
The sad thing about such ugly development is that it gives the ruling party an edge to stay in governance ending up recruiting all active minded opposition members into their lot once again.<\/p>\n
A good number of personality classes have gone out of the SLPP. Controversial figures and people with huge followers \u2013the Fadikas and others<\/p>\n
We at Sierra Express want to see democracy of multi parties stay in play to provide an alternative in choice of leadership for the people of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n
