NEC Stamp Disappears<\/span><\/strong><\/span> – The National Electoral Commission\u2019s validation stamp has disappeared, it was revealed last week, and three NEC workers have been dismissed.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred in Tombo, the fishing community on the outskirts of Freetown where an ongoing voter registration exercise is in progress.<\/p>\n

Ibrahim Cole, the Ward Coordinator, Alusine Cole and Josiah Showers have been arrested. NEC authorities complain that some people were registered but that their slips were not stamped. The problem was identified by political party observers.<\/p>\n

HRC Calls for Release of\u00a0 Underage School Girls<\/span><\/strong><\/span> – The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone has published a press release concerning the arrest of ten underage school girls in Segbewema while they were trying to register with NEC.<\/p>\n

According to the HRC\u2019s release, the suspects \u201care children entitled to the protection of their rights as juveniles in conflict with the law.\u201d The press release further went on to call for the release of the children and recommended \u201ctheir release on police bail pending investigations\u201d<\/p>\n

The girls had been detained in the Kenema police station for six days.<\/p>\n

Gov\u2019t. to Print More Money<\/span><\/strong><\/span> – As a result of the shortage of bank notes in the country, the Central Bank has decided to print more money. This was disclosed by Hon. Alhaji I.B. Kargbo during last week\u2019s weekly press briefing.<\/p>\n

The Government spokesperson and Minister of Information and Broadcasting said they are taking this decision following the shortage of cash in the banks. He also stated that the shortage was caused as a result of the cash flow created through new companies operating in the country and that it is not a matter for concern. According to Minister Kargbo, they had not foreseen the shortage while printing the new notes and this had occasioned the shortage.<\/p>\n

1.2 Megawatt Power for Bo\/Kenema<\/span><\/strong><\/span> – The Bo-Kenema Power Services has received a big power boost through the provision of a 1.2 megawatts caterpillar electric generator. The generator will complement the already existing power provided by the Dodo Hydro electric system especially during the dry season when the power is slow as a result of the shortage of water.<\/p>\n

SLPP MP Forges Birth Certificate<\/span><\/strong><\/span> – Hon. Robin Fallay has been arrested and charged with the crime of forging birth certificates for underage school girls in Segbwema. The Member of Parliament denies the charges, but was however detained in a police cell where he spent more than four days. The girls reportedly claimed they were given the fake birth certificates by the SLPP Honourable. The girls have been granted bail while the MP continues to be in custody.<\/p>\n
