{"id":33729,"date":"2012-01-10T13:48:48","date_gmt":"2012-01-10T13:48:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=33729"},"modified":"2012-01-10T13:48:48","modified_gmt":"2012-01-10T13:48:48","slug":"african-petroleum-corporation-limited-awarded-exploration-permit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=33729","title":{"rendered":"African Petroleum Corporation Limited awarded exploration permit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">African Petroleum Corporation Limited (<strong>NSX: AOQ<\/strong>) (\u201c<strong>African Petroleum<\/strong>&#8221; or the \u201c<strong>Company<\/strong>\u201d), a West African focused oil and gas exploration company, is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, African Petroleum C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire Limited (\u201c<strong>African Petroleum C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/strong>\u201d), has entered into an agreement with the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Nationale d\u2019Op\u00e9rations P\u00e9troli\u00e8res de la C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire (\u201c<strong>PETROCI<\/strong>\u201d) and the Republic of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire (the \u201c<strong>State of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/strong>\u201d) to acquire one offshore exploration permit covering block CI-513 (\u201cPermit\u201d) as shown in the attached map.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Key points:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>African Petroleum C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire entered into agreement with PETROCI and the State of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire to acquire exploration rights in one offshore block: CI-513. The block is situated in the Western Offshore area of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, with a total surface area of 1440 sqkm.<\/li>\n<li>African Petroleum C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire will be the Operator with 90% interest in the block. The other 10% is owned by PETROCI.<\/li>\n<li>African Petroleum C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire exploration programme will target deep water Upper Cretaceous submarine fans in Cote d\u2019Ivoire which are considered to have similar high impact potential as discoveries in the Jubilee field, Ghana and Mercury discovery, Sierra Leone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0Karl Thompson, Chief Executive Officer, comments \u201cAfrican Petroleum is already one of the largest net exploration acreage holders in the West African transform margin focussed on the newly emerging and highly successful Upper Cretaceous exploration fairway. The award of CI-513 initiates African Petroleum\u2019s commitment to building a high grade exploration portfolio in the proven oil basin of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire and accelerating exploration in the region. The new entry into C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire is part of African Petroleum\u2019s strategy to build an extensive portfolio in proven Upper Cretaceous basins of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Liberia as well as building on our pre-eminent position in the frontier Gambia\/Senegal Western Margin. We anticipate announcing significant additional new exploration awards in 2012\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">African Petroleum has recently been awarded licences in Senegal over two blocks: Rufisque Offshore Profond and Senegal Offshore Sud Profond. The area covers 18,277sq km. The Company holds 90% interest with its partner Petrosen holding the remaining 10%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">African Petroleum currently holds a 100% interest in blocks LB-08 and LB-09 offshore Liberia, where it has completed 5,100sq km of 3D seismic data. It has drilled one well in LB-09 with encouraging results.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0African Petroleum holds a 100% interest in block SL-03 offshore Sierra Leone where it has recently completed 3D seismic acquisition covering 2,500 sq km.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Company also holds a 60% operating interest in blocks A1 and A4 offshore Gambia where it has completed 2,500 sq km of 3D seismic.
