The roar of the Lion Mountain would be
\nheard in the whole world
\nand the echoes would be felt in the veins of the nearest
\nneighbours<\/p>\n
Those days, when<\/p>\n
Sierra Leone would play, dance, sing and sleep in green
\ngrass
\nafter her travail on the virgin land of her ancestors<\/p>\n
She would play, dance, sing and sleep with green snakes
\nthat would drag themselves to the listless banjo-players
\nwho would execute their artistic adroitness under the
\nbaobab tree
\nwhere everyone would sit around a wild fire telling their
\nyarns<\/p>\n
Those days, when<\/p>\n
Innocent children would play hide-and-seek
\nwhile the moon would shine on their innocent lives
\nand the fireflies would illuminate their
\nlives when the moon disappeared in the horizon of ambiguity
\nand their mothers would shout them into their beds
\nhaving seen the night running into daybreak<\/p>\n
Those days, when<\/p>\n
When women were women and desired by men who deserved them
\nand men would cherish women clad in lappas or minis
\nwhilst women would desire men in Gun Mots or Prins Nicos<\/p>\n
Those days, when<\/p>\n
Sierra Leone would lick her last fingers more than four
\ntimes a day
\nwhile greedy outsiders would envy mama Salone for
\nher vigour, love, underground riches
\nand everything that made a being human<\/p>\n
These days, when<\/p>\n
We clamour for the sun to throw light again into our
\nparadise
\nand long for the sun to light up our hopes,
\nempty endeavours, and displeasures<\/p>\n
These days, when<\/p>\n
We dance and sing for the sun day in day out
\nto brighten our roads and journeys
\nto the belly of Sierra Leone<\/p>\n
These days, when<\/p>\n
The licking of the last finger is no-longer square
\nin a large part of Sierra Leone but
\na frequent happening in a selected part
\nof Sierra Leone where sticky behemoths
\nlive on the empty purses of the
\npenurious children of Lion Mountain<\/p>\n
These days, when<\/p>\n
The cruel blades of our ancestors
\nseldom pierce through the determined sacred
\nplace of our women.<\/p>\n
Should we regret its gradual demise
\nof those cruel blades
\nor pray that it comes back to
\nshatter the future delight of our children
\nwhile we continue to cherish empty
\nnostalgia of enforced cruelty of those days?<\/p>\n
These days, when<\/p>\n
Guns and machetes which are carried by
\nmany with accustomed ease
\ndrive away the cohesion that held us together
\nand with unkind relish eat like a hungry
\nlion into the fabric of societal lazy Mama Lion<\/p>\n
Today,<\/p>\n
The sun scorches our houses, hopes, endeavours, pleasures
\nand throws dust on our roads and journeys
\nand leads us to hungry Sierra Leone
\nwhere suspicious global teeth gnaw at the
\nlong cherished joie de vive of mama Salone<\/p>\n
Will the sun ever stop letting the green grass
\nfrom withering and bring back those days when
\nSierra Lyoa wallowed in blissful prosperity?<\/p>\n
