{"id":31942,"date":"2011-11-05T22:42:41","date_gmt":"2011-11-05T22:42:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=31942"},"modified":"2011-11-05T22:42:41","modified_gmt":"2011-11-05T22:42:41","slug":"showcasing-jays-anthology-climbing-the-sky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=31942","title":{"rendered":"Showcasing Jay\u2019s Anthology \u2013 Climbing the Sky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In our conclusion of showcasing Jusu Jaka Yawmah (in photo), a Sierra Leonean medical student and aspiring physician currently residing in Ghana who found at the age of 17, during his 5<sup>th<\/sup> form at Prince of Wales School that he had a gift for writing &#8211; in particular poetry, we present \u201cClimbing The Sky.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Jay Jay\u2019s collections are epic, pastoral, religious, haiku, inspirational and symbolic.\u00a0 Jay Jay\u2019s highlights his artistic flair in speaking up, especially for the suffering masses in his country and continent as a whole.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jay Jay\u2019s talent brilliantly shines through in all his writings \u2013 fame has to only be steps away for this truly inspirational poet whose contributions to Sierra Leonean literature are invaluable!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Climbing The Sky<\/span><\/strong><\/span><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;In everything you do, your aim should always be the sky&#8221;<br \/>\nWas what she said to me after saying, &#8220;My son, draw nigh&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;I don&#8217;t have wings, Mum&#8221;, came the timid and solemn reply<br \/>\nCoyly, I added, \u201cSo how do I get to the sky when I cant fly?\u201d<br \/>\nWith a smile, said, &#8220;Even those with wings can\u2019t go that high&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sitting all by myself, puzzled by this maxim, I noticed a little wren<br \/>\nThe thought flashed with a plan, so I found a small book and a pen.<br \/>\nTo this plan I clung, like the precious brood of chicks to Mother hen;<br \/>\nA parachute or ladder? A rope or catapult plus some very strong men<br \/>\nBut one thing! How could I possibly do all of this, when I am only ten!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For my trip\u00a0to the sky; I need a springboard, or maybe a strong catapult<br \/>\nWhat if I fall? What if I&#8230;? My fears, anxiety and perplexity made it difficult,<br \/>\nThus bringing limitations; to my conscience, this was the greatest assault<br \/>\nSo I waived this idea, for another time, maybe&#8230; when I&#8217;m a full grown adult<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s done! I amused myself with a kid rhyme, a frog leap and a somersault.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019ll someday climb the sky&#8221;. I kept saying this, with a very strong conviction<br \/>\nAnd as I transcend from a boy to youth, hold on to my childhood proposition<br \/>\nNow aware of what it takes, it becomes my mantra and personal motivation<br \/>\nClimbing the sky, my clich\u00e9, and all the difficulties attached, my inspiration<br \/>\nAnd on that sky I&#8217;ll be, while they shower me with words of congratulation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Congratulations to make up for the effort and pains while I plan in solitude<br \/>\nAnd disproving my feeble apprehension by reaching the top of the latitude<br \/>\nIt will be amiss, failing to express my heartfelt and undiluted gratitude<br \/>\nTo all; the failures, the fumbles, the limitations, the feeling of lassitude,<br \/>\nNature, the wren, my small book, my will, for proving out my aptitude.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ten year old, the well wisher, and the critic for giving me the attitude.<br \/>\nI reached my limits, I did it! I\u2019ve made it!
