It is incumbent upon every Sierra Leonean to imbibe a little sense of history if only to protect our young democracy. \u00a0This should be tinted with a spirit of tolerance in all spheres of life.<\/p>\n
It should serve as the recipe in our forward march to 2012. \u00a0For that reason, we must prepare ourselves as a people determined to preserve our peace and democracy, come 2012, the signpost of a stable future. Anything short of this, Sierra Leone should be ready for the worse.<\/p>\n
We are not prophets of doom, but gauging the political mood in the country following the election of the flag bearer of the main opposition party and the sound bites emanating from that election, it is like the recipe we are preparing for 2012 would be one of disaster.<\/p>\n
This might sound a wishful thinking to the ears of some people but, like some concerned citizen pointed out the other day, Sierra Leoneans are not learning any lesson from history.<\/p>\n
By our own estimation as a medium, the best way to consolidate our peace is to maintain our democratic credentials.<\/p>\n
Sadly though, even before 2012, we have begun to witness acrimonious discourse between and among various political opponents, thus creating unnecessary tension among the civil populace.<\/p>\n
The ruling party, in particular is not helping the situation. By making copious references to the past in the vein attempt to discredit the opposition flag bearer is outrageous, to say the least. That is no good democratic ethics.<\/p>\n
The ruling party held its national delegate convention in Makeni in 2009 and elected their leader without opening the contest to other interested candidates, but no one made any official comment about it.<\/p>\n
This medium will be kind enough to advise the APC to save their breath and remain quiet over the choice of Maada Bio as presidential aspirant for the opposition SLPP. After all, the ultimate choice of a leader for this country rests with the people in 2012.<\/p>\n
To continue to draw references from the past and making threatening innuendoes will only help to confuse the minds of the people.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Thus, the year 2012 is as crucial as it continues to create a climate of uncertainty as we head for elections next year. Too sad!<\/p>\n
