{"id":25203,"date":"2011-06-18T10:00:57","date_gmt":"2011-06-18T14:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=25203"},"modified":"2011-06-18T10:00:57","modified_gmt":"2011-06-18T14:00:57","slug":"former-slaj-president-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=25203","title":{"rendered":"Former SLAJ President dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Freetown<\/em><em> \u2013 <\/em>The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists regrets to announce the death of its former president, Ibrahim El-Tayyib Bah who passed away at the early hours of today 18 June at the Choithram Hospital in Freetown. He turned 50 years on 12 June.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tayyib, who was President of SLAJ from 2000 \u2013 2004, died of kidney failure, and will be buried on Sunday 19 June at 2:00 PM at Goderich in Freetown, after prayers at the Fullah Mosque at Goderich. Sympathisers should go to the Milton Margai College Road at Goderich and ask for a place called \u201cPaul Kamara\u201d where they should ask for him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTayyib dedicated most of his life and energy to journalism and to SLAJ\u201d says Umaru Fofana, SLAJ President, adding that \u201ceven in ill health, he attended the recent Biennial Conference of the association in Kenema, which was a clear manifestation of his commitment to the association and the trade\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Survived by his wife Zainab and four children, Tayyib Bah was also Publicity Secretary of the opposition Sierra Leone People\u2019s Party, a position he resigned before his death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SLAJ wishes to express profound gratitude to President Ernest Bai Koroma and the National Telecommunications Commission especially its Chairman Siray Timbo, and other friends, who provided financial and moral support to ensure Tayyib was flown to Cairo for a kidney transplant. Sadly, he could not board any of the available flights due to his medical condition at the time.
