Washington DC, Sunday March 6, 2011: Speaking at a meeting of the Sierra Leone Sister Cities Organization in Montgomery County, Maryland today, the indefatigable Honourable Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. Sheka Tarawalie said that President Koroma (in photo)\u00a0is highly rated by the International Community due to his leadership qualities.<\/p>\n
Also speaking at the meeting was the acting Head of Chancery of the Embassy of Sierra Leone Mr. Sheku Mesali, who noted in a brief statement that the presence of the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications and the Embassy officers was an expression of the Government of Sierra Leone\u2019s commitment to embracing the Diaspora, considered highly by their role as partners in the development of Sierra Leone. Mr. Mesali noted further that with decentralization of powers in Sierra Leone, the forming of the Sister Cities Organization was timely. He pledged support for the Organization saying that he was confident the future twinning of our cities will promote development.<\/p>\n
On his part the deputy Minister of Information and Communications, who had flown in from an out-of- State meeting a couple of hours earlier, reiterated the importance of Diaspora saying it was \u201ca new concept\u201d identified as priority area through which the government can harness the resources from the Diaspora constituency in its bid for\u00a0 economic development.\u00a0 Drawing parallels between Sierra Leone immediately after the war and now, Mr. Tarawalie said he was proud of where Sierra Leone was today, and where she was headed. \u201cThere is so much going on in terms of growth and development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The deputy Minister also known as Shekito, lauded the effort of the members of the Sierra Leone Sister Cities Organization and assured them of government\u2019s support as they strive to twin cities and counties in the United States to cities in Sierra Leone, which will impact on economic development for Sierra Leone. He mooted that government was actively looking at possibilities to extending the enfranchisement to Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora against the 2012 General and Presidential elections.<\/p>\n
Among the speaker\u2019s list was the Chair of the Sierra Leone Sister Cities Organization, Ms. Josephine Garnem, Mr. Daniel Koroma, Mr. Aiah Fanday and Mr. Momin Barre, who among other things observed that not many African Ambassadors talk \u201cface to face\u201d with their people as the Sierra Leone Ambassador and government Ministers do.<\/p>\n
