{"id":20042,"date":"2011-02-25T09:38:56","date_gmt":"2011-02-25T14:38:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/?p=20042"},"modified":"2011-02-25T09:38:56","modified_gmt":"2011-02-25T14:38:56","slug":"acc-empowers-school-pupils-in-lunsar-and-port-loko-to-report-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sierraexpressmedia.net\/?p=20042","title":{"rendered":"ACC empowers school pupils in Lunsar and Port Loko to report corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Northern Regional Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission has empowered secondary school pupils in Lunsar and Port Loko to enable them contribute to the fight against illegal charges and corrupt practices in their schools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In its quest to take anti corruption messages to schools, a team of Public Education Officers from ACC\u2019s Northern Regional Office embarked on awareness raising exercise in all secondary schools in Lunsar\u00a0 and Port Loko on 16<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 17<sup>th<\/sup> and 23<sup>rd<\/sup> -24<sup>th<\/sup> February 2011. The objective of the sensitization titled \u201cMeet the Schools Campaign\u2019 was to\u00a0 enable the pupils aware of the corrupt practices that are taking place in their schools, illegal charges, their roles and responsibilities and encouraging them to report to the ACC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"mceTemp\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<dl id=\"attachment_20043\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 458px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Al-Hassan_Sesay_highlighting_the_corrupt_practices_going_on_in_schhools.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20043\" title=\"Al Hassan Sesay highlighting the corrupt practices going on in schools\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Al-Hassan_Sesay_highlighting_the_corrupt_practices_going_on_in_schhools.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Al Hassan Sesay highlighting the corrupt practices going on in schools<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking during the campaign in Lunsar and Port Loko, leader of the ACC team, Mr. Al Hassan Sesay warned principals and teachers to stop forcing pupils to pay money before their assignments and test papers are marked,\u00a0 buy pamphlets, pay for extra lessons, payment for collection of \u00a0report cards and BECE\/WASSE results and other illegal charges. He emphasized that as students, they have a role to play if corruption is to be wiped out in their schools. The leader of the delegation made available ACC mobile numbers to the pupils to enable them have access to the Commission and assured them of the Commissions\u2019 fullest protection whenever they make report.\u00a0 Mr. Sesay urged the pupils to say bye- bye and no to corruption.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"mceTemp\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<dl id=\"attachment_20045\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 458px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Public_Education_Officer_Fatmata_Finda_Bockarie-_explaining_the_mandate_of_ACC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20045\" title=\"Public Education Officer Fatmata Finda Bockarie explaining the mandate of the ACC\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sierraexpressmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Public_Education_Officer_Fatmata_Finda_Bockarie-_explaining_the_mandate_of_ACC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Public Education Officer Fatmata Finda Bockarie explaining the mandate of the ACC<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Giving an overview of the operations of the Commission, Public Education Officer, Miss Fatmata Finda Bockarie told staff and pupils of the respective schools in Lunsar and Port Loko that the Commission is only leading the fight against corruption and therefore called on them to join the fight.\u00a0 She explained the different approaches used by the Commission in the fight against corruption and emphasized its friendly and bitter face.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Miss Bockarie stressed the Commission\u2019s determination to stamp out corrupt practices and warned staff and pupils to desist from them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his address, ACC\u2019s District Coordinator for \u00a0Port Loko Mr. Sahid Kamara noted that the Commission is now closer to the people.
