Sierra Leone\u2019s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E Jongopie Stevens has disclosed plans for the visit of President Ernest Bai Koroma to Germany in February 2011.\u00a0 (Photo:\u00a0 Ambassador Jongopie Stevens and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Jacop Ladipoh<\/em>)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cArrangements for the President\u2019s visit are ongoing and I am waiting to receive confirmation soon,\u201d he stated<\/p>\n

Ambassador Stevens made this disclosure while updating his compatriots about progress made in Sierra Leone during a meeting held at the weekend by the Committee appointed to coordinate\u00a0 and map out strategies for the celebration of Sierra Leone\u2019s 50th<\/sup> Independence anniversary in Germany.<\/p>\n

The Committee, which has since its inception identified several programmes and activities in collaboration with individuals and groups across Germany for the country\u2019s Golden Jubilee celebration, has issued a six-week deadline to its members to submit their concepts and\u00a0 working plans.<\/p>\n

Welcoming the committee, H.E Jongopie Stevens encouraged them to work harmoniously in order to achieve their stated aims. He reiterated the importance of the 50th<\/sup> independence anniversary and emphasised the need for quality, effective and attractive programmes that would reshape and re-brand the country\u2019s battered image after the civil carnage.<\/p>\n

Jongopie assured his fellow citizens that the country\u2019s leadership was determined to move Sierra Leone forward adding that \u201cour President is in a hurry to develop Sierra Leone and we should all come onboard and put our focus in that direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ambassador further highlighted his government achievements and outstanding records made in various sectors including among others, health, energy, road construction and agriculture.<\/p>\n

He stressed that such remarkable success within three years of leadership should not be underestimated.<\/p>\n

Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Jacop Ladipoh, thanked the Ambassador for his efforts in fostering harmony and understanding among Sierra Leoneans in Germany. He reiterated his committee\u2019s work which he said \u201cis to create a coordinating calendar of celebration in the different regions with the involvement support and participation of all as a unit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Individuals and representatives from various groups have outlined programmes and activities for the celebration. They include among others: symposia, cultural exhibitions, public relation activities that would market Sierra Leone through media, and a survey proposal aimed at profiling outstanding Sierra Leoneans in Germany over the last fifty years.<\/p>\n

The aforementioned programmes were discussed and later endorsed by a general consensus through which, the committee later delegated responsibilities to respective groups to present a working plan during the next meeting which will be held in Frankfurt on January 15,\u00a0 2011.<\/p>\n
