The Gullah\/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission (GGCHCC) will select a Preferred Alternative at its fourth 2010 quarterly meeting in Brunswick, GA, at 9 a.m., on November 19.\u00a0 The meeting, open to the public, will be at the Ritz Theatre, 1530 Newcastle St.<\/p>\n
The Preferred Alternative, or management framework for operating the Corridor over the next 10 years, is a major component of the General Management Plan.\u00a0 Its selection will be based on public comments received about the three Preliminary Alternatives that were announced in September.\u00a0 They are:\u00a0 Preliminary Alternative A, \u00a0the \u201cNo-Action Alternative\u201d, which is a continuation of the status quo, and is required to be considered by federal law; Preliminary Alternative B, \u201cDocument to Sustain and Inform about Gullah\/Geechee People and Culture\u201d; and Preliminary Alternative C, \u201cEmpower Gullah\/Geechee People and Perpetuate and Sustain the Culture\u201d.<\/p>\n
The preferred alternative could be one of the three alternatives that have been developed, a combination of ideas from more than one of the alternatives, or an entirely new alternative.\u00a0 The deadline for submitting responses is October 26, 2010.<\/p>\n
